Round Zarzo Basket Workshop
A beginners basketry workshop
Available spots
Service Description
In this 5.5hour workshop, you will learn how to weave a round Zarzo basket with step-by-step instructions. The workshop is a great introduction to this Spanish style of basket originally used for draining cheese. You will learn how to make a basket held together by tension, shaping it as you weave, then tightening the weaving to create the distinctive criss-cross appearance. The handles are secured using two Japanese knots. All materials and tools are included and tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided. A Zarzo basket makes a beautiful fruitbowl, is ideal as a decorative storage solution, or makes the perfect crafting basket for storing wool or other crafting supplies. You need to bring your own packed lunch and wear warm, comfortable clothing which you don't mind getting messy. This workshop is not suitable for those with hand/joint mobility issues. The basket is either woven on the floor while you kneel over it on a cushion, or on a table while you bend to weave it, so you need to be able to bend, either kneeling or standing for the majority of the workshop. Please Note: This workshop takes place at the Williamson Hall, Kirk Wynd, Abernethy to give everyone plenty of space.
